The decision, made during an emergency meeting chaired by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, reverses the board’s initial stance against extending the deadline.
Taxpayers now have until October 14 to file their returns, as confirmed by an official notification issued by the FBR.

September’s tax collection figures played a significant role in the decision, with the FBR exceeding its monthly target by Rs. 11 billion, reaching Rs. 996 billion.
Trade organizations and tax bar associations had previously urged the FBR to grant a one-month extension, citing difficulties in meeting the original deadline.
The extension is expected to benefit thousands of taxpayers, who can now avoid penalties and fines associated with late filing.
This move demonstrates the FBR’s commitment to facilitating taxpayers and promoting compliance,
said an FBR spokesperson.
Taxpayers are advised to take advantage of the extended deadline and submit their returns by October 14 to avoid any last-minute hassles.
