Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Face Graft Hearing in Toshakhana Case

In Islamabad, an accountability court has set a hearing date for a graft reference against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, related to the Toshakhana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed the reference, and the hearing is scheduled for December 23, with notices already dispatched to relevant parties.

NAB Rawalpindi, responding to allegations of graft, named only two accused in the reference – Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. This development followed the accountability court’s rejection of NAB’s request for an extended physical remand of Khan in the Toshakhana case. Instead, the court declared a 21-day judicial remand, adjourning the hearing until January 6.

NAB’s Allegations: Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Accused of Gift Retention

The core accusations revolve around Imran and Bushra allegedly retaining gifts from official visits to foreign countries during Imran Khan’s prime ministership. Instead of depositing these gifts in the Toshakhana per official protocol, the couple purportedly kept them and contributed an amount less than the stipulated value to the national treasury.

Notably, Bushra is accused of holding onto various jewelry items received as gifts during official visits, including a locket, rings, ear tops, and bracelets. Despite repeated requests from NAB for the return of these gifts, especially the jewelry items, Bushra allegedly failed to comply. In response, NAB directed her to appear at the NAB Rawalpindi office on December 11 with the specified ornaments. Bushra subsequently obtained bail until December 13 in this case from the accountability court in Islamabad.
