Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has announced that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has no objection to targeted subsidies, paving the way for the Benazir Income Support Program to provide relief to deserving citizens. The minister revealed this during a press briefing at Parliament, where he also discussed the government’s plans to implement a uniform subsidy policy across the country.

IMF Sets New Conditions for Loan Program, Punjab’s Solar Panel Scheme in Jeopardy

The IMF has set three new conditions for Pakistan’s new loan program, including the withdrawal of subsidies on electricity bills in Punjab. The province’s plan to provide solar panels to 500 monthly consumers, worth 700 billion rupees, is now in jeopardy. The IMF has demanded that Punjab stop providing 14 rupees per unit relief in electricity bills for two months, resulting in a subsidy of 45 to 90 billion rupees.

Pakistan Government Committed to Tax Reforms, No Increase in Withholding Tax

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has assured that the government is committed to tax reforms, with no plans to increase the withholding tax. He emphasized that every sector of society must contribute to taxes to ensure the country’s development. The minister also announced that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will achieve its tax collection target through digitization and enforcement.
