On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that May 28 would be observed as a public holiday to celebrate Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating the day Pakistan’s defense was solidified by nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan.
The prime minister, in a statement from the PM House, highlighted that Youm-e-Takbeer symbolizes national unity aimed at making the country’s defense unassailable.
On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted five nuclear tests, becoming the seventh nuclear power globally and the first in the Islamic world, thus strengthening its regional influence and restoring the strategic balance.

Prime Minister Sharif described Youm-e-Takbeer as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s pursuit of credible minimum deterrence.
