FBR Directs PTA and Telcos to Block SIM Cards of 0.5 Million Non-Filers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated the Income Tax General Order (ITGO) to block SIM cards of more than 0.5 million individuals who are not listed as active taxpayers but are obligated to file their Income Tax Returns for the Tax Year 2023.

Containing the names of 506,671 individuals not featured in the active taxpayer list but mandated to file their Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2023, the comprehensive list has been compiled.

As per the General Order issued by the FBR, the mobile SIM cards associated with the aforementioned individuals will remain inactive until restored by either the FBR or the Commissioner Inland Revenue with jurisdiction over the individual.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and all telecom operators are instructed to ensure immediate compliance with this ITGO.

A compliance report concerning this matter must be submitted to the FBR by May 15, 2024, as stated in the order.

FBR, in a message posted on X, encouraged individuals to promptly fulfill their tax obligations and submit their income tax returns for Tax Year 2023, providing accurate declarations to facilitate the restoration of their mobile phone services in accordance with the ITGO.
