ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN – AUGUST 14, 2024

In a grand celebration after Paris olympics, Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medalist in decades, Arshad Nadeem, was awarded a staggering 250 million rupees ($897,000) for his record-shattering javelin throw at the Paris Olympics. The reward was announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at a special ceremony in Islamabad, where Nadeem was hailed as a national hero.

Earlier in the day, Punjab’s Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz visited Nadeem’s humble abode in Mian Channu and presented him with a check for 100 million rupees ($359,000) and a brand-new car with a customized registration number commemorating his Olympic record. Nadeem’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, was also awarded 5 million rupees ($18,000) for his role in shaping the champion’s journey.

As Pakistan prepares to celebrate its Independence Day, Prime Minister Sharif praised Nadeem for bringing immense joy to the nation, saying,

Your achievement has lifted the spirits of 250 million Pakistanis, and we are ecstatic to celebrate this triumph alongside our Independence Day.
