Early Life & Education

• Born into privilege, driven by purpose: Born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha, to a wealthy Bengali family. His father was a prominent lawyer. Despite academic brilliance, he was deeply influenced by Swami Vivekananda's teachings and harbored a fierce desire for India's freedom.
• Clash with authority: At Presidency College, Calcutta, he assaulted a professor for making racist remarks against Indians. He was expelled, marking his first act of defiance against colonial injustice.

The Turning Point: From ICS to Revolutionary

• Rejecting the 'Sarkari' path: In 1920, he passed the prestigious Indian Civil Service (ICS) exam in England. But he resigned, writing to his brother: "The ICS is a service under a foreign government. I cannot serve it." This was his emotional beginning—a choice to sacrifice a secure career for the uncertain path of revolution.
• Rise in Congress: He returned to India and joined the Indian National Congress. Mentored by Chittaranjan Das, he quickly rose through ranks, known for his radical views and organizational skills.

Ideological Clash & Breakthrough

• Split with Gandhi: Bose believed in armed struggle, while Gandhi advocated non-violence. In 1939, he was re-elected Congress President despite Gandhi's opposition. He resigned after a lack of support, forming the Forward Bloc. This was a major SETBACK—he was isolated from the mainstream.
• Escape to Germany: Under British surveillance, he escaped house arrest in 1941, disguised as a Pathan. He traveled to Afghanistan and then to Moscow and Berlin, seeking Axis support. This daring escape was a BREAKTHROUGH in his quest for international allies.

The Indian National Army & Peak

• Formation of the INA: In 1943, with Japanese support in Singapore, he revived the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj). He proclaimed the Provisional Government of Free India. The INA fought alongside Japanese forces in Burma (Myanmar) and India's northeast.
• Iconic slogans: He gave the battle cries "Jai Hind" and "Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom!" His leadership inspired thousands of Indian soldiers and civilians.

The Final Phase: Mystery & Legacy

• The plane crash: On August 18, 1945, Bose died in a plane crash in Taipei, Taiwan. But many believe he survived, leading to decades of conspiracy theories. His death marked the emotional end of a relentless struggle.
