Early Life & Education
- Born Narendranath Datta on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata, into an affluent Bengali family.

The Turning Point: Meeting Ramakrishna
- 1881: First meets Sri Ramakrishna at Dakshineswar. The question that haunted him: 'Have you seen God?' Ramakrishna's answer: 'Yes, I see Him as clearly as I see you.'
- Emotional beginning: Initially skeptical, but Ramakrishna's ecstatic love and direct experience of God transformed Narendranath into a devoted disciple.
- After Ramakrishna's death in 1886, Narendra and other disciples form the first monastery at Baranagar.
The Wandering Monk & The Parliament of Religions
- 1888-1893: Travels across India as a wandering monk, witnessing poverty and colonial oppression. Realizes the need to uplift the masses.

Mission in the West & Return to India
- 1893-1897: Lectures across the US and UK, establishing Vedanta societies. Faces criticism from Christian missionaries but wins admirers like Nikola Tesla.
- Setback: Health deteriorates due to overwork and harsh climates. Also faces opposition from orthodox Hindus back home for crossing the sea.
- Comeback: Returns to India in 1897 to a hero's welcome. Founds the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 for social service.
Legacy & Final Years
- 1897-1902: Travels across India, inspiring youth. His speeches at Colombo to Almora ignite a sense of national pride.
- Emotional end: On 4 July 1902, he meditates, then lies down and attains mahasamadhi (voluntary death of a realized soul) at the age of 39.
