Tragedy Strikes Mumbai Marathon: A police official revealed that two participants, one of whom was a 74-year-old man, experienced fatal collapses during the annual marathon in Mumbai.

The running event, which took place on Sunday, resulted in the hospitalization of 22 individuals due to dehydration and various other reasons, as stated by the official.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Suvradeep Banerjee (40) from Kolkata and Rajendra Bora (74) from Mumbai.

According to the Mumbai Police, Bora suddenly collapsed on Marine Drive, leading bystanders to rush him to Bombay Hospital. Regrettably, upon his arrival, medical professionals declared him deceased, citing the cause of his passing as a heart attack.

Banerjee, participating in the full marathon from Worli, also collapsed, prompting the police to swiftly transport him to Nair Hospital. Doctors at Nair Hospital declared him dead upon examination, and the exact cause of his demise is currently under investigation.

Cases under ADR have been officially filed by the Mumbai Police, who have also commenced a comprehensive inquiry into both incidents at Azad Maidan.

The men’s and women’s titles in the marathon were secured by Ethiopian runners Hayle Lemi Berhanu and Aberash Minsewo, respectively.
