A 53-year-old woman, Helen Shakespeare, has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of her former partner, Raymond Groves, 48.
Court Appearance
Shakespeare appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, facing charges of murder and conspiracy alongside unnamed co-conspirators. She spoke only to confirm her personal details during the brief hearing.
Prosecution’s Case
Prosecutor Kate Prince stated that the Crown’s case alleges Shakespeare stabbed her ex-partner at her home address, resulting in his death.

Presiding Justice Amanda Lee transferred the case to Winchester Crown Court, with Shakespeare’s next appearance scheduled for July 9.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that formal identification of the victim has not taken place but believe the deceased to be Raymond Groves from Hartcliffe, Bristol. Police responded to reports of a stabbing at an address in Strawberry Fields, Easterton, near Devizes, Wiltshire, on Tuesday evening.
Additional Arrests
A man in his 30s is being questioned on suspicion of murder, while a woman in her 20s has been arrested for her alleged role in perverting the course of justice and conspiring to commit murder.
