The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) faces criticism for the prolonged delay in declaring the results of yesterday’s General election 2024.

Last evening, the ECP issued a stern warning to provincial election commissioners and returning officers, urging them to announce the General Elections 2024 results within half an hour or be prepared to “face strict action.”

Despite this directive, the official results for a significant number of National Assembly and provincial assembly seats remain undisclosed.

Unofficial results indicate that independent candidates supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are leading on a majority of the national assembly seats.

Addressing concerns about the delayed election results, the Interior Ministry explained that the delay resulted from a “lack of communication,” a consequence of precautionary security measures implemented to ensure foolproof security.

After assessing the delay, the Ministry described the current situation as “satisfactory.”

Contrary to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) assurance of no internet disruptions, users across the country experienced prolonged outages.

In response, the Interior Ministry stated that recent militant attacks have claimed “precious lives,” emphasizing the necessity of such security measures to maintain law and order and address potential threats.
