FBR Blocks 105,000 SIM Cards of Tax Return Non-Filers in 2024

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has blocked 105,000 SIM cards belonging to individuals who have not filed their income tax returns.

According to sources cited by ProPakistani, the FBR is providing telecom companies with information on 5,000 non-filers each day.

To date, 18,902 people have had their SIM cards reactivated after submitting their income tax returns.

Additionally, last month saw the FBR establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) comprising tax officials and telecom operators to implement the Income Tax General Order (ITGO) No. 1 of 2024 and improve the process of blocking SIMs for non-filers.

Major telecom companies began blocking SIM cards of non-filers on May 20.

Up until now, the FBR has identified 506,671 individuals who did not submit their income tax returns for 2023.
