Punjab Announces Early Summer Holidays for Schools Due to Heatwave

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared that all public and private schools will commence their summer holidays early because of the intense heatwave. The holidays are scheduled to start on May 25 and will last until May 31.

In a video message, Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the necessity of prioritizing the health and safety of students during the ongoing heatwave. He noted that a significant majority of parents, 96%, support the early start of summer vacations this week.

“Our foremost concern is the welfare of our students. Given the current high temperatures, it is essential to implement precautionary measures to ensure their safety,” he said.

Schools that are in the midst of conducting exams have been allowed to stay open under the condition that they implement necessary safety measures.

Previously, the Punjab government had scheduled summer vacations from June 1 to August 14 due to the severe heatwave.
