Google is currently testing a new AI feature called “Speaking Practice” aimed at improving spoken English skills, especially addressing the challenges faced by many Pakistanis. This feature is currently available in select countries, including Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela, exclusively for users who have joined Search Labs. According to TechCrunch, it will gradually roll out to more regions in the near future.

The primary objective of this feature is to enhance users’ English proficiency by engaging them in AI-driven language learning exercises. These exercises are designed to facilitate the application of newly acquired vocabulary in practical contexts. This functionality builds upon a previously introduced Google feature from October of the previous year, which initially enabled learners to practice speaking sentences within contextual frameworks and provided feedback on grammar and clarity. The latest addition, “Speaking Practice,” integrates aspects of two-way conversational exercises.
Furthermore, the introduction of this innovative feature hints at Google’s potential intent to directly compete with established language learning platforms such as Duolingo and Babbel. This endeavor marks Google’s continued foray into the realm of language education, following the introduction of a pronunciation practice feature within Search back in 2019.
